Fear Not

What is fear? The dictionary’s definition of fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm”. It is also described as “the anticipation of danger” (expectation of danger). It is caused by the ‘threat’ (a statement of a thing likely to cause damage or danger?).

Is there a human being that has lived without being afraid of one thing or another? I’d say ‘No’ because fear is natural. It may be fear of tomorrow, fear of death, fear of debt, fear of losing a loved one, fear of failure, fear of what people will say/are saying, fear of speaking in public, fear of flying. The list goes on but God’s word for you is “Fear Not”.  In fact, there are 365 verses in the bible that tell us to not be afraid.

A few years ago, I used to drive a long way to work and I used to have to drive over a flyover, I don’t like heights. Whenever I drove over the bridge, I would be so scared anticipating a crash (I’d be been in a huge car crash when I was younger). I found myself afraid I would speak in Tongues to reassure myself that God was in the car with me. I’d envision that the Angels of God were there with me too. I became a lady who drove through flyovers daily and although at times it was hard, my focus was not on the gravity of my fear, but on the greatness of my God.

What is your fear? What are you afraid of today, as you read through this message? Whatever your fear may be, know that fear is natural, but it is not Supernatural. You are a Supernatural being, as God’s daughter/son and you have the Power of God and Victory in Christ to overcome fear. As a Pastor, I have been privileged to counsel, pray for, guide and support many women and families going through fear, despair and all kinds of life challenges. I have seen them fulfilled their God-ordained destiny, as they let go of their fear, focus on God and didn’t allow fear to hold them back.

Every door has a key or codes that unlocks it. See below five key ways to combat fear:

5 Key Ways to Combat Fear:

1.    Remember that God’s Love is Permanent: Know that God loves you and His love for you is permanent. It is above whatever is causing you to be fearful or afraid. Know that your God is a loving Father who protects you and He will never drop you or forsake you.

2.    Seek God in Prayer: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:6-7). Pray about your challenges and speak to God about your ‘Fear’. Ask Fear to go and Faith to come In Jesus name. Exchange your fear for Faith in God. Live by faith and not by sight or your feelings. Seek the Lord and He will hear you and deliver you from your fear (Psalm 34:4).

3.    Meditate on God’s Word: Meditate on God’s Word and build up your faith with the Word of God. “For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Heb. 4:12). Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Rom 10:17). As you meditate on the Word of God and applying God’s words to your situation, fear will go. You will achieve God’s plans and purpose for your life and fulfil your God ordained destiny.

4.    Stop worrying about your future: know that God’s has got you safe and secured and He’s got your back. “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself” (Mat 6:34). Know that God is in control of that situation, your life and your tomorrow is in His hands. Be assured that The Lord is your helper, and nothing will harm you.  ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Know that even though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, God is with you and He will not let evil come near your dwelling. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4). God is our Comforter. He is our refuge and strength, our very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

5.     Remember that you already have the victory by Jesus’ death and resurrection on the Cross of Calvary. Jesus paid for your fear, sins, death, debt, failures, challenges; name it, on the Cross of Calvary. Fear has no power to hold you captive anymore. Use your authority in Christ Jesus over the spirit of fear and fear will bow. You are an Overcomer by the Precious Blood of Jesus and the word of your testimony. Fear is under your feet.

Our Prayer:

Father, we thank you for giving us victory over fear. Thank you that every stronghold of the enemy is broken in the name of Jesus. We appropriate your blessings and victories today and forever in Jesus name. Amen.
